“Maestrale non chiede il permesso, entra e smuove.”
With bold breath and ancestral rhythm, this piece by Limen Collective, composed by Fabrizio Leoni, channels the northern Sardinian wind known as the Maestrale. Cold and untamed, this wind dances through villages and coastlines, carrying with it centuries of resistance and resilience.
Built on the traditional Sardinian dance Passu Turratu, the piece breaks and rebuilds its form through modern arrangements. Piano, sax, clarinet, flute, trumpet, tanbur, double bass, and percussion swirl together in a fierce, rhythmic spiral. The textures are sharp, the movement relentless, yet within the chaos, a strange kind of clarity emerges.
“You can almost see the mountains sway and the sea roar.” The wind becomes music, memory, and metaphor.
This is not just a song, but a force. A call from the northwest, where tradition is not preserved in glass but lifted and spun into the present with fire in its bones.
